This scholarship is $1,200 annually ($600 per semester). Applicants must be full time students with at least a junior level status who are enrolled at Austin Peay and have formally declared a Communication Arts major and are specializing in broadcast media, internet technology or media technology, or at the gradute level, in corporate communication or general communication. A minimum 2.75 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) in the Communication Arts major required; applicants must have completed at least 15 semester hours of the Communication Arts major coursework. Recipient must be willing for APSU to display the creative project online and in any other forms desired by the Department of Communication as well as allow for publicity by the Department. Students must submit an application accompanied by a CD or DVD copy of the completed website, digital editing or video production original, creative project. |

Eligibility: Full-time, 2.75 GPA in Communication Arts major, minimum of junior standing and graduate student submissions welcome, video or Web design project to be submitted to Dr. Frank Parcells, APSU, Department of Communication, P. O. Box 4446, Clarksville, TN 37044, Music/Mass Comm. Building Room 327 – A.
Amount of Scholarship: $600 per semester with a total of $1200.00 for the wear to the DavidWesner Scholarship winner.
Deadline for Submission: Due by 5 PM on March 18, 2011 in Dr. Parcells’ mailbox in MMC 173, Department of Communication main office.
Individual Work: All work must be completed by only one individual student. No group or team projects are acceptable for this scholarship. Students must complete the work alone.
Required Submission Elements: Applicants must submit a completed application form signed by the supervising and nominating Communication Department faculty member along with a CD or DVD of the creative project and a narrative statement [a minimum of 5 typewritten, doublespaced pages] outlining the workflow resulting in the final project and providing a rationale for the value of the product.
Description of the Creative Project: Only two types of entries are permitted: (a) an original Webdesign project featuring an entire website employing creative design and production work built using Adobe Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Photoshop and Flash Pro, or (b) an original video production [no videos over 3-minutes in total length allowed] employing creative audio and video work and highlighting editing skills into a final program (public service announcement, promo, news clip, advertisement, feature story, news interview report, etc.) prepared using any appropriate equipment and edited employing Adobe Premiere, Apple Final Cut Pro, or Avid Pro Tools and accompanying
audio software with the completed video project from any computer operating system but saved or converted to only a QuickTime video [.mov] final format when submitted for consideration. |

Judging of the award will be based on the following criteria and may be conducted by Departrment of Communication faculty members with expertise in the area of the project submission, but the final decision to award and fund the David Wesner Digital Scholarship will be made soley by Dr. Frank Parcells, who has established and funded this scholarship.
- Documented completely individual work by the single student applicant on the submitted digital project.
- Documented use of only the approved software: for websites (Adobe Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Flash Pro, and Photoshop) and for digital video project (Adobe Premiere, Apple Final Cut Pro, or Avid Pro Tools and accompanying audio editing applications) and the expertise of it's applied use in this project to achieve excellence in digital communication.
- Recommendation and endoresement of the project as worthy by an APSU Communication Department faculty member with expertise in the submission area.
- The grammatical and syntactical quality and narrative detail of statement (maximu of 5-double-spaced page typewritten paper) outlining the final project and providing a rationale for the value of the project.
- Submission of a DVD or CD containing the entire project for viewing by the judges and Dr. Parcells. If digital video, it must be submitted as a QuickTime .mov file.
- Expert determination of the qualitative and quantitative evaluation for the project's provided rationale for it's value.
